Which texts are usually translated by a certified translator?
It is necessary to present a certified translation of the documents in the language of the country where the documents are to be presented. It regards all education, notarial, court and vital records documents.
The following documents most often require certified translations:
- vital records (birth / death / marriage certificates and their copies),
- purchase/sale agreements for vehicles and real property,
- power of attorney, will, suit, court decision,
- entity's entry into a register, abstracts of commercial registers,
- corporate charter
- minutes of General Meetings, a company's articles of association,
- invoices and other customs documents,
- documents and letters directed to courts or offices,
- tender documentation,
- expatriate personnel documents, etc.
The principles regarding certified translations
result from the existing statutory regulations (See: the Certified Translators Act of 25 November 2004 [Journal of Laws no. 273, item 2702].)
- the text to be translated must be submitted to the translator in the original (when submitting it to the translator or on collection of the translation), provided that the client is in possession of the original.
- the translation calculation of a certified translation page contains 1125 characters (including spaces); a page that contains less than 1125 characters is calculated as a full page.
- certification of previously translated text combined with its verification is subject to a 50% translation cost rate,
- if a text to be translated contains specialist vocabulary the charge per page is increased by 30%,
- a certified translation is a document therefore there cannot be any alterations made in it,
- certified translations are always made on paper and for that reason they must be delivered to the customer by courier or ordinary mail or collected personally,
- each such translation contains the translator's annotation at the end containing the date and repertory number.
An additional copy of a certified translation can be made, subject to 25% fee; it has the same validity as the original translation.
